Personal Tribute to Kevin Fletcher

It is with real regret that I have to announce the death of Kevin Fletcher, Fletcher Dance Studios who ran classes in Shifnal and Telford, Shropshire.

Kevin passed away suddenly on 18th July 2016 and I know all his past and present students will truly mourn him.

Although I qualified as a teacher many years ago, due to various moves around the country I had been away from dancing for many years until I moved to Telford and joined Kevin as a pupil. With his encouragement, I regained my confidence by helping him take classes and he was instrumental in my attaining my Associate Latin teaching qualification and going on to my Fellowships in Ballroom and Latin. He was always there to help me choreograph my advanced routines and it was great to have someone to chat with who understood the triumphs, and sometimes problems, of running a dance school.

We had very different styles of teaching and he was always ribbing me about my choreographing skills, or lack of, and I was always commenting on his lack of teaching technique to his pupils!  However, despite us jokingly criticising each other, we always had a deep respect and regard for each other, happy to give potential students each other’s details if we couldn’t accommodate their needs ourselves.

Many thanks for all friendship, laughter and advice you gave me.  I will really miss you.
